Evaldas Gulbinas
Best known across London for his tattoo artworks, Evaldas Gulbinas also creates mixed media works which play on themes of science fiction, abstraction and philosophy. With a natural eye for line and form, he creates sculptures and paintings using graphic shapes, bright block colours and playful, tactile compositions.
The Covid-19 outbreak has presently seen the closure of his tattoo studio, and a move to creating new work from home. Although unable to utilise his usual mix of materials – which includes paint, clay, polystyrene and wood to create sculptures, paintings, mixed media and installations – isolation has not hindered Evaldas Gulbinas’ imagination. Moving to digital methods of working, he is inspired by everyday life as it currently perceived during the pandemic; drawing figures in isolation surrounded by shapes and symbols. For the artist, working on new pieces from home has given him a new focus, as well as acting as a form of meditation and developing new techniques digitally has given him new ways to express himself artistically.
Gulbinas first studied at two art schools in Lithuania before moving to London to complete a foundation before gaining his degree in Fine Art mixed media from the University of Westminster.
